In yet another bizarre choice, the Democratic nominee Kamala Harris has eschewed Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro after doing nothing to disabuse the public of the notion that Shapiro was the likely nominee. The press of the entire world was assembled (see screenshot) in Philadelphia because everyone expected Shapiro to be selected. Pennsylvania and Ohio are absolutely required to win in the Electoral College system. Minnesota is a state which almost also votes in favor of Democrats, but came into striking distance for Trump after the assassination attempt. Minnesota is certainly not needed for Trump. While the choice of Walz, a person who is entirely unknown to most Americans, may help her to secure Minnesota's mere handful of electoral votes, it does nothing to help her to win in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida and other important states.
This event only makes it more likely that Trump will become our 47th President. This is not the end of Democratic in-fighting as Shapiro will likely retaliate against Harris and refuse to cooperate with her in the future. Shapiro is one in a long line of crooked Pennsylvania politicians as Pennsylvania has almost unilaterally chosen the President in our country for 200 years.
In our system, if you think of the country as a house with a series of rooms, when we hold our election, if there are ten people in the house and seven of them vote for the Democrats and three vote for the Republicans, the three voting for the Republicans are permitted to decide the election because they happened to be standing in the kitchen at the time of the election. Just another way in which my state is the only one that matters.
